FAQ

Should I provide my API keys?

Users no longer need to provide their own API keys. Just register in the app and you'll receive credits each month. Every shortcut invocation costs a number of credits.The exact cost mainly depends on token usage, which is positively correlated with the length of the input and output text.

Which model are you using?

We use OpenAI and Anthropic models (like the GPT-5.4 series). The exact model depends on various factors — for example, the complexity of the user's task, the length of the input text, and more. We maintain a detailed test set to balance cost and quality.

We also considered exposing model selection to users, but for the first version we'd rather hide those details and see whether the software solves the user's needs.

What is the data flow of the selected text?

Our software runs in the background. Every time user press the keyboard shortcut Option + Q, Qwicut will read the text that user currently has selected. This behavior requires a system-level Accessibility permission on macOS.

After getting the text from the system, we send it to our server and it will forward to an AI provider (like OpenAI or Anthropic).

Does Qwicut keep any history?

As we mention in our privacy policy, under "1. Information we collect":

Content you submit. When you use Shortcuts, the text you select is sent to our servers and third-party AI providers to generate the response. We do not store your selected text or the response from the AI provider unless you explicitly agree to save it.

In the future, we plan to strengthen our security and compliance practices by working toward relevant industry standards and regulations, such as ISO 27001, GDPR, and HIPAA compliance, to ensure user data is handled securely and responsibly.
